Crew beats BANDSCOAST to win Siege Showdown at Localhost Philly
by Brian Bencomo
Crew beat BANDSCOAST 2-0 in the final of Siege Showdown, Nerd Street’s Rainbow Six LAN that took place at Localhost Philly this weekend. Crew went undefeated throughout the tournament, going 4-0 in the group stage and then winning all three of their matches in the single-elimination playoff bracket. They won the lion’s share of the $20,000 prize pot.
The team roster consisted of Leonardo "Kyno" Figueiredo, Ayden "dfuzr" Gabari, Evan "Yoggah" Nelson, Nick "njr" Rapier and Ethan "Nuers" James, which was a conglomerate of seasoned veterans from pro teams M80, Oxygen, DarkZero and Spacestation. The team included a couple of Rainbow Six Major winners as well as players who had won the Rainbow Six competitive circuits Element and North America League (both operated by Nerd Street).
Siege Showdown began Saturday with group play, where the 20 teams were divided into four groups of five. The groups played out in a round robin format with the top two teams in each group advancing to the playoffs. Crew and BANDSCOAST each finished atop their respective groups with 4-0 records, while F5 Esports and the University of Akron went 3-1 to finish second in those groups. Chopped Cheese went undefeated in Group A, and the University of Cincinnati finished second in that group with a 3-1 record. Group D saw three teams finish 3-1, with Error 404 Esports and SpaceShoobs advancing over CJ McDonald Esports by a narrow round differential.
In the playoffs, Chopped Cheese, Error 404 and Crew won their quarterfinal matchups 2-0, while BANDSCOAST’s 2-1 over the University of Akron was a nailbiter in which Akron took the first map. While Crew won their semifinal 2-0 over Chopped Cheese, BANDSCOAST once again had a gritty 2-1 victory in their semifinal matchup against Error 404. Chopped Cheese won the third-place match over Error 404.
Siege Showdown was well-received by the Rainbow Six community. With much of Rainbow Six Siege esports in North American being played online, many players, teams and other attendees took to social media to praise the opportunity to play on LAN and meet teammates and competitors in person.
Siege Showdown was the second of two Rainbow Six LAN tournaments held by Nerd Street at Localhost venues. The first one took place at Localhost Denver in March and saw Outlast Gaming beat 774 in the final.
