Nerd Street and Temple University announce collegiate esports partnership

by Brian Bencomo

Nerd Street and Temple University have announced a partnership that will make Localhost Philadelphia the home of Temple esports. The partnership will give Temple University’s esports teams the ability to train and compete at Localhost as well as host events and private parties at the esports and gaming facility located in downtown Philadelphia.

Temple University’s involvement in esports includes a club and competitive teams as well as educational offerings. According to the Temple University esports club’s site, the Owls have teams that compete in Apex Legends, Call of Duty, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Hearthstone, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, Smash and VALORANT.

Temple’s esports club also hosts virtual and in-person gaming events throughout the year for students interested in playing more casually. Temple University’s School of Sport Tourism, and Hospitality Management (STHM) offers a four-course concentration and certificate for students looking to learn the business and managerial elements of esports.

The partnership between Nerd Street and Temple also benefits the university as a whole, giving students the ability to use Localhost’s PCs for a discounted price. The university will be able to use Localhost for events too, including student retention and recruitment events.

Nerd Street is a big supporter of collegiate esports. In December, Localhost was the site of the NACE StarLeague Fall Finals, which crowned champions in seven different esports. In April, Nerd Street will open its next Localhost venue on the campus of Rowan University.
